MAPFRE Foundation has summoned the 1st edition of the KBr Photo Award, an international award with a biennial periodicity open to photographers who plan to carry out a new project or the completion of one already started, unpublished in both cases, that has not been presented to any other similar call.
The endowment of the prize is 25,000 euros and the deadline to register until September 10. In addition to the cash prize, Fundación MAPFRE will produce and organize an exhibition at the KBr’s Espai 2 in February 2023, which will show the result of the award-winning project. Together with the exhibition, Fundación MAPFRE will publish a catalog.
The jury for the award is made up of four prominent members of the art world: Carles Guerra, artist, art critic and independent curator; Thomas Weski, curator of the Michael Schmidt Archive and exhibition curator; Sarah Meister, CEO of Aperture; Urs Stahel, writer, curator, independent advisor and curator of MAST – Manifattura di Arti, Sperimentazione e Tecnologia – (Bologna); and Carlos Gollonet, chief curator of photography at Fundación MAPFRE.
The director of culture of Fundación MAPFRE, Nadia Arroyo placeholder image, has highlighted that “With this award the Foundation wants to reaffirm its support for artistic creation publicizing the winner on the national and international scene, boosting his career with a cash prize, an exhibition of his work and its corresponding catalog“.
