Tijuana celebrates literature with the 40th edition of its Book Fair, which for the first time is held in the emblematic interactive museum El Trompo, which from June 6 to 15 becomes the epicenter of the word, critical thinking, music, gastronomy and ideas that shape the culture of this entity.

Since its Genesis, in the 1980s, promoted by the vision of nine local booksellers, the Tijuana Book Fair transcended to become the longest cultural encounter of the city, melting pot of disciplines with a creative and diverse program that has welcomed hundreds of publishers.

This edition is erected as a renewed mission: to contribute with a wide cultural diffusion, foster and strengthen awareness about the benefits of reading and promote experiences that promote the development of the individual and the community.

The mayor of the border city, Ismael Burgueño Ruiz; The head of the newly created Ministry of Culture of Tijuana, headed by Illya Haro, and the Tijuana bookstores union, said that this fair offers a robust and unique literary program with more than 250 workshops and conferences designed to inspire audiences of all ages.

Among the most prominent guests are writers Alberto Ruy Sánchez, Socorro Venegas, Odin Dupeyron, Elena Piedra, Patricia Rosas Lopátegui, Álex Toledo, Gabriela Jáuregui and Lola Ancira, among others.

In addition, there will be a tribute to Eraclio Zepeda (1937-2015), in which her daughter, the multidisciplinary artist Masha Zepeda, will talk about the literary work of the Chiapaneco author.

More than 50 national and international publishers participate, including Uranus Editions, Penguin Random House, Ocean, Economic Culture Fund, Grupo Planeta, Sixth Floor, Editorial Trillas, Era Ediciones, Almadía, Madreditorial, Larousse and Book Soccer, originally from Argentina.

The meeting has a pavilion dedicated to children, in which dance exhibitions and musical presentations are held, where the Javier Bátiz rock icon, originally from this border city, will also be honored.

The organizers expect that this literary party attend about 60 thousand people (twice the previous edition), in addition to an economic spill estimated at around 12 million pesos.

The Tijuana Book Fair not only seeks to encourage the habit of reading and regional literary talent, but also stimulate the local economy, give visibility to independent editorials and emerging writers, in addition to decentralizing the cultural offer.
