Fashion|Skyt was rewarded for knitting creations that combine personal history with experimental material handling.
Fashion designer Minerva Skyt Won the European Fashion Award for students in Berlin on Wednesday. The award-winning collection is part of his Master’s thesis at Aalto University.
Skyt’s inspiration for the collection received old letters from the box, which his ancestors and other relatives wrote to each other in the early 20th century.
Skytän’s grandfather Hannes Sjöblom served as Finland’s first missionary worker in China. He wrote numerous letters to his relatives living in Finland and took a lot of photos.
The images taken by the ancestors of the sails of the Chinese ships served as a source of creativity in Skytä: Skäta was particularly fascinated by the wooden snowstorms of the ships, which are now repeated in the straight lines of his collection. The sail holes and the traces of wear, in turn, have been transferred to knitwear through shapes and materials.
“I mimic Also, in my work letters, the traces of time left in the letters: stains, sun -faded spots and the fragility of the paper, ”Skyt says.
Vintage Built completely on the technology developed by Skytä himself. He makes his knitting himself, from the yarn.
The collection includes a variety of clothing, such as skirts, shirts, dresses and trousers as well as accessories such as shoes and suitcases.
The shapes of the clothing are sculptural and, according to Skytä, develop during the process.
