The coveted title that David Beckham received from the kingdom

Former footballer David Beckham was crowned by King Charles with the title of “Sir” for his “contribution to football and British society”. The star, now officially also a knight, who will henceforth be called Sir David Beckham, arrived today (Tuesday) at Windsor Castle accompanied by his wife Victoria, who will now bear the title of Lady Beckham.

In a post he uploaded to his Instagram account with the exciting documentation from the moment of the coronation, Beckham wrote, among other things: “I don’t even know how to begin to describe what a special day it is for me today, a boy born in East London, to receive a knighthood from His Majesty the King. I am truly excited, humbled and grateful for this honor. I have had the good fortune to represent our country, and I have always done so with pride. I love our royal family and what it means to people, not only In Britain but around the world. I never dreamed that something like this would happen to me.”

For the festive event, during which Beckham knelt before King Charles, who crowned him with his sword, the star arrived accompanied by his proud parents, Sandra and Ted.

For the former footballer, the knighthood comes more than two decades after he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), in 2003. According to reports, more than a decade ago, in 2011, he was first offered the nomination for the current honorary degree.

Last June, when it became final and closer than ever, Victoria shared her pride in an emotional post on social media and wrote to her husband: “You’ve always been my knight in shining armor, but now it’s official. Sir David Beckham! What an honor, I couldn’t be prouder,” she wrote.

Beckham volunteers with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and last year he joined the King Charles Foundation as an ambassador, as part of a campaign designed to encourage young people to develop careers in gardening and agriculture. “I am excited to work with the King’s Foundation and be a partner in raising awareness of its activities,” the star said in a statement at the time. He added: “It has always been important to me to help young people broaden their horizons, and I especially look forward to supporting in the foundation’s education programs and in its efforts to ensure that young people have wider access to nature.”
