It is with regret that actor James Van Der Beek, revealed at the end of the 1990s in the series “Dawson”, parts with the objects he has preciously kept throughout his career. But the 48-year-old American found no other choice to finance his treatment for stage 3 colon cancer, diagnosed last year.
“I have been saving these treasures for years, waiting for the right time to sell them. And given the unexpected twists and turns that life has had in store for me lately, indeed, the time has come,” explains James Van Der Beek to People magazine.
A cost of $150,000 per patient treated for cancer
Among the items on sale from December 5 to 7 in London (United Kingdom), the flannel shirt that he regularly wore in “Dawson”, the necklace that his character gave to that of Joey (played by Katie Holmes) for the prom in the series or even a hat worn in the film “Varsity Blues”, in 1999.
“Although I feel a certain nostalgia in parting with these objects, I am happy to be able to offer them for auction on Propstore and to share them with those who have supported my work over the years,” explains James Van Der Beek.
This auction is the second organized by the actor since he revealed he was suffering from colon cancer in November 2024. A painful decision for the actor which highlights the very high cost of cancer treatments in the United States.
According to the National Cancer Institute, the bill amounted to more than $208 billion nationwide in 2020, at a cost of $150,000 per patient, notes The Guardian.
