Did the Marvel tonight (Tuesday-Wednesday) accidentally reveal the biggest secret of the movie “Spider-Man: There’s No Way Home?” At a special live broadcast, the company unveiled the official trailer for the film, when in a version aired in Brazil, keen-eyed fans noticed a editing error, which could very well be confirming the biggest rumor surrounding the film. Therefore, if someone does not want to be exposed to spoilers (whether they have been approved or are still rumors), you should stop now.
For those who are out of date, the plot of the film revolves around the desire of Peter Parker (played by Tom Holland) to make the world forget his not-so-secret identity as Spider-Man, which was revealed at the end of the movie “Spider-Man: Far From Home”. In desperation, he enlists the help of the powerful wizard in the Marvel universe, Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), who will cast a forgotten spell on the world. Of course things go awry and instead of making the world forget, a rift is created in the universe that causes many rivals from other locations to appear in Marvel’s mainstream universe, including Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus from Sam Raimi’s trilogy, and Jamie Foxx returning to Electro from the second film in the Marvelous Spider-Man series. As a result, many fans around the world expect to see the previous Spider-Man in the film – Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
In the trailer revealed tonight, Octopus manages to catch Spider-Man during a battle between them and take off the Spider-Man mask from his face. In a moment of astonishment, the great villain is surprised to discover that the Spider-Man he is fighting is not the Spider-Man he knows. This in itself is not a big spoiler. It makes a lot of sense that Octavius would not recognize a person he does not know and would not expect to see someone other than Peter Parker played by Toby Maguire, but for fans, this moment only reinforced the theory that, in the end, Maguire would appear in the film.
The big spoiler comes towards the end of the trailer, with Spider-Man coming to fight Electro, Lizard and Sandman. In the regular trailer, to which most of the world has been exposed, the scene is cut short as Parker leaps toward the three enemies. In contrast, in a trailer aired in Brazil, the scene is not cut in time, and for a moment it seems that while Spider-Man leaps towards Electro, the lizard gets punched in the face by a character who is not seen at all.
From the moment of the broadcast until now, many fans around the world have begun to speculate – is this just a editing error, or have they tried to hide one of the two previous Spider-Man, whose participation in the film has so far been a rumor only? And perhaps, contrary to most expectations, the character who is not seen on screen is at all Miles Morales, continuing the path of Peter Parker in comics, who unlike his predecessor also possesses the ability to become invisible. It is important to note that in the past a Morales family member has already appeared in the main Marvel universe when Spider-Man interrogated him in the movie “Spider-Man: Homecoming”.
