After 22 years the curtain rises at the Teatro Lirico in Milan

“We made it” the reopening of the Lirico, after 22 years “is a Christmas present for the Milanese”. The director general of the theater Matteo Forte, who is also managing director for Italy of Stage Entertainment (creator of the reopening), a few minutes before the curtain rises on the new season, does not hide the enthusiasm for the positive response of the city, this evening with a full house (about 1,100 people, but it can be up to 1,400 sessions) and in the previous weekend, on the occasion of the open days, with 10 thousand attendees.

For the Premiere, of the centenary theater in via Larga, designed by Piermarini, just like La Scala, Cochi and Renato, Claudio Bisio and Massimo Moratti are also present.

“Tonight we’re off – with a show called Comincium “by the duo Ale and Franz, “it is a cheerful show – says the director Forte to AGI – which is what is needed at the moment, more so with the news coming from Italy and abroad”. Therefore “We invite everyone to the theater – it is the appeal – it is an absolutely safe place, wearing a mask and respecting the rules”.

“There is a beautiful bar in the foyer on the first floor, with all the marble recovered” and soon a large panoramic restaurant will also open. At the moment “it is closed. There are several operators who would like to start working with us, but having had little time, we took the theater on October 21 – remember -, we need a few more weeks to choose the right partner and also start with that activity “.

The restoration

Already last weekend the building opened its doors wide, 10,000 visitors who booked to preview the result of the impressive conservative restoration: because it is true that it was born in 1776 by the hand of Piermarini, but only the backbone of that building remains, amidst fires, floods and a new renovation project by Cassi Ramelli in ’39.

Milan Opera House

Modern techniques have respected the ancient origins of the theater, with the recovery of the marbles of the time, the restoration of the mosaic at the entrance, the reclamation of asbestos that covered 1,100 square meters of the vault. Complex works started in 2016 and costing 16 million euros.

From this evening the new life of the Opera House begins, which with Forte offers an interesting season, with lots of music, from Ermal Meta to the Nomads, from Fabio Concato to Gigi D’Alessio, from Pmf to Joe Jackson, who in the theater in via Larga will perform on April 10 for the only Italian date.
