Lina Rafn and Paw Lagerman Feared the consequences
After the big hit adventure in the UK, the Infernal duo Lina Rafn and Paw Lagerman geared down completely – they were afraid that they could no longer function socially, and that Paw in particular would end up resorting to alcohol and drugs

They had long delivered juicy sound with bagpipes, banjo, Russian choir and all the mole javelin to the Danish dance floors, but at the end of 2004 something happened for the Danish hit group Infernal, which consists of Lina Rafn and Paw Lagermann.

Here they released the single ‘From Paris to Berlin’, and now, for the first time, they had found the formula for a hit that also went beyond the country’s borders. Especially in the UK, people were crazy about Infernal and the hard-pumping single, which was released somewhat later than at home, and therefore ended up only really hitting in 2006, when it became the third best-selling single in the UK.

But with the hit list success came loads of interviews, a performance in ‘Top of the Pops’, concerts at all kinds of nightclubs and concert venues, and a life as an international star.

It corroded. In fact, so much so that Lina Rafn says that in the end she ‘was scratching her skin by herself.’

Find happiness yourself
Therefore, they totally pulled the plug in 2007 and took a break from the road circus, the two Infernal members say in a video interview with P3.

You can see it here.

– The whole England adventure actually stands for me as something ‘practice’. ‘Hey, now we’re a hit in England, so NOW it’s going to be cool’. Then you just find out that it is not. You have to find happiness yourself, says Paw Lagermann and says that everything in England, except the city center in London, is ‘reminiscent of Esbjerg’.

– The fact that we drew the plug after that, I think is the main reason why we are normal people today, who are whole and can be among others. Because honestly – many of those I know and have met who have had international success and have pushed themselves further than we did, they can not function in normal social contexts, says Lina Rafn.

No to the snot in a lane coke
Paw switch:

– This is also why things usually come in to liven them up. It could be alcohol and narcotics, etc. There I could feel that if we had continued with that, then I would have ended up with the snot in a lane coke, and I simply do not mind. I want to prove that you can be Danish Rolling Stones, who can just stand and fire it when I am 50 or 60 years old, but it may also require that I have taken care of myself, says Paw Lagermann in the video.

They like to elaborate in chorus, as Ekstra Bladet contacts Infernal for a comment:

– The reason why we chose to prioritize our time differently in 2007 was largely driven by our desire to do what was, after all, the reason why we stood there (the adventure in the UK, ed.) : Namely, to sit in the studio and make music. Being on the go all the time did not feel healthy for us. It’s fine sometimes in small periods, but constantly – then we get torn to pieces like humans. There just has to be more duck pond than tour, then we are happy, it sounds from Lina and Paw.
