Many Danish and foreign celebrities have an attitude to the ongoing and bloody war in Ukraine, where the conduct of the Russian troops has forced thousands of civilians to flee, but few have experienced the country and the refugee problem up close.

Helene Christensen is one of the few who has experienced how war and crises affect ordinary people. In a post on Instagram, she talks about her experiences when she was in Ukraine in 2012 and met, among other things, elderly citizens who lived among ruins in areas that were clearly marked by war.

– In 2017, I was in Ukraine with @refugees visiting elderly people and listening to their gruesome stories about previous crises, some still had no home after being displaced for several years, she writes, adding that there was optimism at the time in relation to the future to track.

Breaks my heart
– They seemed hopeful in terms of a peaceful future. It breaks my heart to know that they now have to go through this again.

She ends her post with a call for help in one way or another – possibly by supporting the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Helena Christensen is one of the best known, international top models in Danish history. She is still active as a model and has also been recognized as a photographer.

Here you can see a naked photo series, where she has both stood in front and behind the camera in a new campaign for the English lingerie brand Coco De Mer.
