– It is a natural consequence of what is happening in Ukraine. It is an expression of supporting Ukraine and freedom in the western world, says Katerina Pitzner about her decision to Ekstra Bladet.
In future, it will therefore not be possible to find Russian diamonds in her jewelery company Diamant Børsen. Not even if the diamond has only been honed in Russia.
– I have informed all my suppliers and partners that I do not want to trade in Russian diamonds or diamonds cut in Russia. And it is something that is respected and taken very seriously in the industry, says Katerina Pitzner.
– How do you know if your suppliers comply with your requirements?
– That’s a super relevant question. I would say that it is just as safe as when we guarantee that we will not trade in stones from conflict-ridden areas. So suppliers and partners sign that the diamonds are not from Russia. That is our guarantee.
Heavier workflow
The decision to remove Russian diamonds from her range will not have a major economic impact on her business. Still, it will have an impact on the workflow.
– There will be some slightly heavier workflows, because we can not drive automatically. As you know, we have to avoid diamonds from Russia, and it will be a bit time-consuming to find some other diamonds, says Katerina Pitzner.
However, the task will not be completely impossible, as diamonds can also be found in many other countries.
– Fortunately, there are other opportunities to grab diamonds. Here it is typically Africa, South Africa and Canada. After the exclusion of Russian diamonds, I will therefore buy more diamonds from these countries, says Katerina Pitzner.
– Can it not have negative consequences for your business that you break the cooperation with your Russian suppliers?
– It’s possible, but I’m not set in the world to please people. And this is something that I will do my best to support, says Katerina Pitzner.
