The incomprehensible entered Afonso Reis Cabral’s life when he was 16 years old. Back then, in March 2006, Portugal’s newspapers and TV news were full of headlines about a crime: the transsexual Brazilian Gisberta Salce Júnior was sadistically tormented, sexually abused and killed by a group of young people in Porto. At the time, Cabral could not imagine that some of the perpetrators were younger than himself. They lived in a Catholic home for children from broken families, where they are said to have been sexually abused.
