The Minister of Culture and Sports, Miquel Iceta, visited the old Tabacalera building this Wednesday, located in the Lavapiés neighborhood of Madrid, and that it is one of the strategic projects of the Ministry.
The building, located in one of the main cultural hubs of Madrid, it has more than 21,000 square meters. In it, a state-owned space is proposed, which is a center for artistic production and residences, along the lines of other European centers such as the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam.
It is one of the projects committed to in the EU Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. With an investment of 12.5 million euros in the next two years, it contemplates the rehabilitation of the building’s facades, roofs and carpentry; and an arts residency pilot program. In addition, the project includes a program of public activities that opens the project to the sector and the public.
