Lena Dunham is no longer working on “Polly Pocket” film

The American actress, screenwriter and director Lena Dunham says she is no longer working on her film about the Polly Pocket character. “I’m going to tell you something that I’ve never told anyone before: I’m not going to make the Polly Pocket film,” the 38-year-old told the US magazine “The New Yorker.”

Dunham said she worked on the script for three years. “I feel like the next movie I do has to be a movie that I absolutely have to do. That no one else could do. And I thought other people could do ‘Polly Pocket’.” She praised Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster ‘Barbie’ and admitted that she felt she was “not up to it” in that kind of thing. “And I just felt like if I couldn’t do it that way, then I wouldn’t do it,” Dunham said.

Lily Collins should play

The classic Polly Pocket playset consists of the minifigure of the same name and an opening box. Actress Lily Collins (“Emily in Paris”) was supposed to slip into the role of the children’s toy figure. “I can’t wait to immerse myself in this pastel world,” the 32-year-old Brit wrote on Instagram in June 2021. As a child, she was “obsessed” with the toy. With the project, in which she also worked as a producer, she said she had fulfilled a dream.

It is currently unknown whether Mattel will continue with the film project without Dunham.
