7 habits that help biologists reverse aging

A good diet, sleep, and exercise, regular exposure to light, and monitoring oral health are the secrets to helping Tim Gray, 45 years old, stay youthful and energetic like a young man.

Tim lives in London and is one of the leading experts on biohacking in the UK. “Twelve years ago, I was the CEO of a marketing company and lived a ‘work hard, play hard’ lifestyle. Eventually, I burned out and became seriously ill. I didn’t have the energy to get through the day.” , he said.

Tim shared that through research and self-experimentation, he overcame all his problems. Now, more than a decade later, he is in the best of health and has a biological age of 24, despite turning 45 earlier this year.

Biological age is a term that describes the effects of the aging process on the human body, indicating whether your body is really younger or older than your actual age. It can be determined through testing kits, which often include testing saliva, blood or urine samples.

According to Tim, the basic principle of biohacking is the tweaking of diet, sleep, hydration and environment to work with the body to produce the desired results. “There is no magic pill nor supplement or technology that by itself can prolong your health or longevity,” says Tim, adding that instead it’s about small positive changes that accumulate over a long period of time to make a big difference.

Here are 7 simple ways to reduce your biological age, according to Tim:

Optimize light exposure

According to Tim, our bodies are designed to wake up and sleep according to the sun. Light carries biological signals – this means that in the morning it is necessary to get out and be exposed to natural light to support cortisol response and energy. Daylight also suppresses the secretion of melatonin – the sleep hormone.

In the evening, it is necessary to limit exposure to artificial light – which signals the body to wake up. People who follow biohacking use blue light blocking glasses to block or control harmful blue light from entering the eyes, affecting sleep.

Sleep 7 to 9 hours

Sleep is essential for the body to recover from damage during the day. Sleep is the foundation of energy and recovery.

People who follow biohacking often track sleep using devices. The quality of our sleep can say a lot about our lifestyle and recovery.

However, there should be a balance between deep sleep, light sleep and REM sleep.

Good diet and hydration

Make sure you are hydrating properly and eating well. Biohackers often avoid tap water, instead choosing mineral water or reverse osmosis filtered water (a special type of filtered water) with added sea salt to increase mineral intake.

When it comes to food, focus on a minimally processed diet that contains processed foods and buy organic fruits and vegetables and grass-fed meat where possible. The main rule is to choose foods as close to natural as possible, avoiding added chemicals, preservatives and pesticides.

Motor

Biohacking followers are not only passionate about exercise but are also advocates of regular exercise.

Accordingly, you should walk as much as possible, use a standing desk and take regular breaks during the day. Sitting for 8 hours daily is not recommended because it can reduce cognitive performance and cause postural problems.

Find like-minded people

There is much research on the importance of social relationships and how other people influence us on both a psychological and biological level. So make friends with like-minded people who prioritize relationships that focus on positive health.

“A supportive community will help you thrive,” says Tim.

Reduce stress levels

Promote work-life balance, spend time in nature, connect with friends and family, and try things like breathing exercises and meditation.

Earthing – placing your bare feet on the earth’s surface – has been shown to reduce inflammation and improve blood flow. Just 10 minutes a day can significantly improve your health and well-being.

Check oral health

People who follow biohacking believe that health begins with the mouth. Try gargling by holding coconut oil in your mouth for 10 minutes and scraping your tongue to support a healthy oral microbiome. Optimizing the oral microbiome also helps prevent tooth decay.
