AGI – “Good morning guys, it is an important moment in your life, it is a transition. It is the state exam, he is not an examiner. The students will discuss their thesis with the commission, made by their professors and an external president. What will happen in the future we will see without prejudice. You will not be branded as those of Covid, measure yourself. “It is the Minister of Education himself, Patrizio Bianchi, who wishes the first good luck to the more than 540,000 students who have been taking the final exams since Wednesday 16 June.
A “non-series B” examination, the minister himself pointed out. “It is a fully qualified exam, it is not a light formula“,
The rules: from the elaborate to the discussion on a literary text
Staggered entrances, spacing obligation and masks: continue with the test of maturity until the first half of July. It is the second state exam in the Covid era: no written test, only oral as happened last year. Five graduates per day will be examined for each class. The oral exam will last about an hour and is divided into various parts: the paper, the questioning of an Italian text, the analysis of the commission’s materials and, finally, a sort of interview on the school-work experience.
In detail, the oral interview of about an hour starts from the discussion of a paper, a job assigned to fifth-year students by the professors on the basis of the path they have taken and of the disciplines characterizing the field of study. The paper has different forms in order to take into account the specificity of the different study fields, the planning of the scholastic institutions and the characteristics of the student in order to enhance the peculiarities and the personalized path taken. There are, for example, Latin language and culture and Greek language and culture for the classical high school, mathematics and physics for the scientific high school, foreign language and culture for the linguistic high school.
The interview continues with the discussion of a text already being studied in the teaching of Italian language and literature, with the analysis of materials (a text, a document, an experience, a problem, a project) prepared by the commission with a discussion of conceptual issues characterizing the various disciplines. And then, space for the exposition of the experience carried out in the Pcto (Pathways for transversal skills and orientation).
As for the evaluation of high school students, the academic credit will be awarded up to a maximum of 60 points, of which up to 18 for the third class, up to 20 for the fourth class and up to 22 for the fifth class. Up to 40 points will be awarded with the oral exam. The final evaluation will be expressed in hundredths, it will be possible to obtain honors.
In conducting the interviews, the information contained in the student’s curriculum is taken into account, which includes the academic career, but also the activities carried out in other areas, such as sports, volunteering and cultural activities.
Maximum 5 graduates per day for each class
The number of candidates taking the interview it cannot be more than 5 per day and the order of convocation is based on the alphabetical letter established by the draw by the individual commissions. The admission of the candidates was ordered, in the final ballot, by the class council.
Also this year, like last year, the commissions are composed of an external president and six internal members. According to data released by the Ministry of Education, the commissions amount to a total of 13,349, for a total of 26,547 classes involved.
For the second consecutive year, students have to deal with compliance with the Security Protocol for Covid. The last year has been reconfirmed broadly, with a clarification regarding the masks: according to the indications of the Higher Institute of Health, in fact, it is compulsory to use surgical and no more community ones (as it was allowed in 2020), while the Ffp2 are not recommended for prolonged use.
For the rest, the Protocol provides for the same directives as last year as the distancing of at least two meters between the candidate and each member of the commission, hand sanitation, limited use of carers in school premises, remote examination in case the student is in quarantine.
The minister’s alarm
“We have the lowest rate of education and achievement of a result “, is the alarm launched by Bianchi, according to which “we must increase the number of those who go to professional and higher technical institutes and universities. We must bring children more to school and also keep adults in a permanent training activity , they too must continue to study “.
“We have to go back to normal but the one from the past was not going well – the minister stressed again – we were the country in Europe with the highest rate of early school leaving, Covid has exasperated and exposed this factor. From this summer, the school must be national, it must give equal opportunities to the whole country, using all the tools available, to have the ability to live together “.
Next year, he added, “it will be a constituent, it will be a school in the presence knowing how to use all the tools. We will talk about it at the G20 to understand how to get out of this moment of suspension of the world“.
