Genes, nutrition and movement are three factors that determine the development of children’s stature and physicality as adults.
Information was Mr. Le Anh Vinh, Director of the Vietnam Education Science Institute, said at the seminar Summary of 6C strategy in teaching primary physical education, May 13 in Hanoi.
“In fact, the stature of Vietnamese people has improved but relatively slow compared to other countries in the region,” Mr. Vinh said. Currently, the average height of young men is 168.1 cm, while the average female tall 156.2 cm. Compared to 10 years ago, young men increased by 3.7 cm, and women increased by 2.6 cm. Compared to Southeast Asian countries, the height of Vietnamese people behind Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. 10 years ago, Vietnamese people stood closest to the region, only slightly better than Indonesian and Philippines.
Mr. Vinh said that there are 3 factors affecting the development of stature, physical, gene, nutrition and movement. In particular, the gene is an unmistakable factor, which can only affect the remaining two factors. In terms of nutrition, in recent years, children have been taken care of nutrition better from family to semi -boarding meals at school. As in Japan, there is a school nutrition policy, they require 100% of schools to deploy semi -boarding at noon. This contributes to improving the stature of the Japanese very much, according to Mr. Vinh.
As for mobilization, in fact, with the current life, many students in the city area do not have many opportunities to mobilize outside the school. Students often study all day at school, in the afternoon home and have little time to exercise outdoors. Therefore, if at school, they do not actively participate in exercise, the mobility time is very little.
“This will limit the development of children’s health and stature,” Mr. Vinh said, adding that in the general education program, physical education is only two periods a week and that is not enough, can expand 4 periods a week.

He added that physical education lessons not only help students improve their physical strength and skills, but also play an important role in forming a healthy lifestyle, discipline and confidence for students. The 6C strategy used in physical education hours through games will help all children confidently participate, thereby creating excitement and love of children’s movement.
The 6C strategy consists of 6 elements: Confidence, Contribution, Connection (cohesion), Clear/Concise (clear/concise), Choice (selection) and Celebration (recognition, praise). This strategy is part of the project “Developing physical education in elementary schools in Vietnam” started in 2020. The purpose of the project is to develop physical education in elementary schools nationwide.
“The implementation of physical education, requiring boarding meals for students is a prerequisite to help develop stature in the near future,” Professor Vinh said.

At the seminar, experts also shared the benefits of children being mobilized, such as helping to maintain energy balance and weight, enhance bone and muscle solid, enhance blood circulation and help children have a healthy heart. In addition, a healthy child also helps reduce the risk of chronic diseases, helps to relax and reduce stress, more confident in life.
