An increase in the number of corona cases in Europe

Against the background of Israel’s opening to tourists starting today (1.11), data from recent days show an alarming increase in all indices in many European countries. After weeks of decline, the number of positive corona cases in Europe has risen in the last three weeks in a row, a total increase of 18% in the last week alone. According to the World Health Organization nearly 3 million new corona cases have been reported worldwide in the last week, 4% From the previous seven days.

The corona soared sharply in the Czech Republic and Hungary, where the average last week jumped more than 100% from the previous week. Croatia, Denmark, Norway and Poland recorded an average increase of more than 70%. Russia last week reported a seven-day record high of more than 35,800 new cases, 10% higher than the previous week. In Ukraine a 43% jump is reported with an average of 21,900 new cases daily.

The numbers of the corona plague in the prominent countries show that the containment achieved in recent months has been halted. Although there is a 10% decrease in positive tests in the UK, an increase in the number of hospitalizations and deaths has been observed. These figures may be related to the Delta Plus version, which has been gaining momentum in the UK over the past month. France also has a consistent increase in all indices, the average hospitalizations in the last week in the country increased by about 10%.

In Israel, what is happening in Europe is being monitored, but at this stage the policy of only the orange-yellow countries remains the same, with no country being defined as red. “The Ministry of Health monitors the morbidity in the world on an ongoing basis and classifies the countries according to risk levels,” the ministry said in a statement emphasizing that according to regulations vaccinated tourists will not be able to enter from countries classified as red.

And in the shadow of the soaring morbidity, there is a fear on the continent of the deadly combination of the corona with the flu. “The evolving delta variant and the approaching winter season could also provoke outbreaks,” said Maria van Krakow, of the World Health Organization. “Entering the winter months – where people tend to spend much more time indoors, and in rooms where there is no good ventilation – may even increase the incidence,” she said.

In a statement from the health organization last Tuesday, it was stated that Europe is the only region of the six regions of the World Health Organization in the member countries where cases are climbing. “There is a three-week rise in progress,” said Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of the World Health Organization’s emergency program, “while the global global curve is straightening up, Europe has risen three weeks in a row.”
