The Nurses’ Union announced a one.day strike this coming Wednesday

The Nurses’ Federation announced tonight (Sunday) a protest strike by the nurses throughout the health system starting this coming Wednesday and for 24 hours. According to the Histadrut, the reason for the strike is the immediate non-implementation of the outline for dealing with violence against nurses in the health system.

It was also reported that as part of the strike, the responsibility for the hospital will operate on a Saturday basis. Among other things, the operating rooms will work on a Saturday basis and there will be no urgent surgeries in the afternoon. In the various intensive care units, the nursing staff will work on a limited basis. On the other hand, the Histadrut clarifies that the corona tests will continue to take place and the departments will be fully staffed.

Data from the Ministry of Health show that from the beginning of 2021 to the end of October, more than four thousand riots were recorded in hospitals, an average of about 15 events a day. 252 of the cases involved physical violence. At the end of November, a resident of Umm al-Fahm was arrested on suspicion of assaulting security guards and medical staff at Rambam Hospital.

Two weeks earlier, an indictment was filed against a 38-year-old Netanya resident after he went on a rampage and attacked medical staff in an emergency room at Laniado Hospital in Netanya. The suspect was arrested by Netanya police, and after the investigation, an indictment was filed against him for assaulting a public employee, attempted assault of an emergency employee, threats, intentional damage to property and disorderly conduct in a public place.

According to the indictment, the defendant arrived as an escort of another in order to receive medical treatment in the hospital emergency room, and demanded that a doctor treat his friend immediately. After receiving an unsatisfactory answer from the emergency room nurses, he started a riot in the emergency room, threatening the nurses and vandalizing hospital equipment. He then attacked the hospital security guards who tried to reassure him.
