After the death in the US of an infant who used Similac formula, the Israeli Ministry of Health announced a recall of two Abbott products.

After US authorities urged parents not to buy milk formula produced at the Abbott Laboratories plant in Michigan because it could be dangerous for the health of babies, the Israeli Ministry of Health also announced a recall of Abbott products.

The site of the 14th Israeli television channel writes that we are talking about specialized mixtures of Similac, sold by prescription of a doctor or nutritionist, and not falling into free sale.

Abbott, in consultation with the Department of Health, organized a collection of two powdered Human Milk Fortifier and Alimentum preparations from pharmacies and hospitals. Both products are made in the USA.

At the same time, Abbott draws the attention of consumers to the fact that in other products and a line of mixtures of Similac, which were produced in other factories, they are completely safe for babies.

The Sturgis plant’s Similac scandal erupted after four cases of sick babies were reported. Children in Minnesota, Ohio and Texas have been diagnosed with bacterial infections caused by Salmonella and Cronobacter sakazakii and have been hospitalized. One of the babies died.

On February 18, Abbott Laboratories announced a recall of milk formula produced in Michigan.

The FDA launched an investigation during which the bacteria were found at the facility, but in areas not in contact with production. The FDA release emphasized, “No product tested positive for the presence of any of these bacteria.” At the same time, the FDA also reported that internal documents from Abbott speak of the destruction of products due to the presence of Cronobacter sakazakii.
