Coritiba returned to winning ways after three games, and the coach Jorginho highlighted the unity of the squad in the 3-1 triumph over Ceará, this Wednesday (18), at Couto Pereira. According to him, the group needs to overcome the fans’ distrust.
“I always talk to the athletes, they know the importance of victories. Their commitment today has to be in every game. They need to overcome distrust, jeers. They need to unite among themselves, embrace each other”said the coach, in a press conference.
The coach also stated that one of his qualities as a coach is precisely uniting the team. Jorginho used Brazil’s elimination from the 1990 World Cup, which he was part of, as a negative example.
“We need this mentality, we need to unite, to be together. And I’m very good at that. I know very well when you lose a title, as happened in 1990, and when you win a title, when you are completely focused, you take away all vanity, focusing on the greater objective”, he declared.
Coritiba coach praised SAF
Jorginho also praised Coritiba’s SAF and stated that he did not intend to return to work in Série B before Coxa’s invitation. The commander is in his third stint at the club. Before that, he won promotion in 2019, and led the team for a brief stint in 2020.
“Our dream is to move up, and SAF gives us the conditions for better days. Salaries on time, serious people who will bring sustainability, which has been lacking in Brazilian football for a long time,” he said.
“I love it here, with all my heart. I’m here for the third time, I wasn’t going to play in the Second Division anymore, I only came for Coritiba. I really believe that we will win [o acesso]it is possible”, completed the coach.
Jorginho complained again about boos from Coritiba fans
Despite the victory, Coritiba’s first half against Ceará was very poor, which provoked boos and complaints from the fans. Before the match even started, some fans booed midfielder Matheus Bianqui and cursed Jorginho.
The coach once again commented on the boos. He explained how the demands can affect the players. On other occasions, the coach had complained about the pressure from the fans, saying that it seemed like the team was “playing away from home.”
“The fans are passionate, they go for the result. They will boo. I feel more sorry for the player. I’m an old monkey, I’m 60 years old, I don’t feel sorry. What hurts me the most is seeing an athlete being booed. The athlete has a family and feels it very much.”said the technician.
After the victory, Coxa returns to the field against Ituano this Saturday (21), at 6 pm, for the 28th round of Série B, away from home.
