Luna Rossa wastes another match point. All open again with American Magic

Luna Rossa loses again and wastes the third match point in the Louis Vuitton Cup semifinals. Today’s two races are won by American Magic, both in a somewhat dramatic manner: Luna Rossa disqualified in the first race, breaks the mainsail in the second Meanwhile, Ineos Britannia qualifies for the final, 5-2 over Alinghi.

Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli has thus once again missed the pass to the final of the Louis Vuitton Cup. The Americans crossed the finish line unchallenged. The series now sees the Italian team ahead 4-3. Tomorrow they will return to the water in Barcelona for the eighth and (possibly) ninth round of the semi-final.

Luna Rossa now has to run ashore, to the workshop, to fix today’s damage: a problem with the traveler rail that regulates the mainsail. A real shame for the Italian boat, which in the seventh race of this semifinal, was competing on equal terms against American Magic. The Americans had moved ahead, albeit by a small margin, at the first and second gates. Then, at the third gate, Luna Rossa had passed with a slight advantage. Finally, during the second downwind leg, there was a failure on the Italian AC75 and therefore the KO.
