The legendary captain of Partizan, Novica Veličković, officially ended his career tonight, with a victory in a friendly match against Ephesus 92:85 in Belgrade.

Veličković played the last game for the black and whites in front of the full Belgrade arena. He experienced a very emotional farewell from his beloved club, and when he addressed the fans, he cried on several occasions.

Partizan basketball players played in retro jerseys modeled on the 2008/2009 season.

Numerous players from various generations of Partizan watched them next to the field, as well as the legendary coach of the Belgrade club, Dusko Vujosevic, who was greeted with applause on several occasions.

At the presentation before the match, the players of both teams wore T.shirts with the image of Veličković. Also, most of the fans were dressed in the same T.shirts.

Fans had the opportunity to see the new Partizan team, led by the new coach Zeljko Obradovic.

The match started with a minute of silence due to the death of the legendary coach Dušan Ivković.

In a statement for RTS, Veličković said that “only in the end does he see that he did something for Partizan”.

“Thanks to everyone who has followed me through my career, because this is a special day for me, it’s not easy for me to leave basketball. I turn to other things. I don’t remember my first basket, but tonight I was as excited as when I first played. “The euphoria that appeared around me made me tense. Thanks also to Ephesus, I gave the basket too easily tonight, maybe the easiest,” he said.

“This is a nice opportunity for Partizan’s audience to see the new team and the coach, everything came together. I had good teachers when I was younger, a lot of captains, older players who were real leaders. At no time do we look to offend an opponent or anyone. I am that the team is in front of everything, I and no other individual are important, Partizan has always been in the first place. That remains with the younger generations “, added Veličković.

He said that he would now dedicate himself to his family and that he missed the time with her the most.

Veličković played 509 games for Partizan and won 13 trophies and is one of the most beloved players of the club.
