World number one Jannik Sinner will find out in mid-April whether he will be subsequently banned for doping or whether he will remain acquitted. The International Court of Arbitration for Sport scheduled the hearing in the case of the 23-year-old tennis professional from Italy for April 16th and 17th. The hearing will take place behind closed doors.
Sinner tested positive twice for the banned anabolic steroid Clostebol in March. The Italian did not receive a ban because, according to the responsible agency Itia, no intentional fault or negligence could be proven.
Sinner explained that the banned substance entered his body through the hands of his physiotherapist during a massage. The World Anti-Doping Agency Wada objected to the acquittal and is calling for a ban of one to two years.
