Speed skater Dombek sixth at the European Championships in the sprint all-around

Hendrik Dombek took a good sixth place in the sprint all-around at the European Speed Skating Championships in Heerenveen, the Netherlands. After two 500 meters and two 1,000 meters, the 27-year-old from Munich was a total of 4.46 seconds behind the new title holder Jenning de Boo from the Netherlands. Merijn Scheperkamp and Tim Prins completed the podium for the hosts. Moritz Klein from Erfurt came in 15th place.

Dombek had missed the first two World Cups because of a muscle injury in his thigh that he sustained after winning the title at the German 500 meter championships. Only last weekend he made his comeback and won the national qualification in Erfurt.

There was also a Dutch triple success among women. Jutta Leerdam won gold for the third time in a row ahead of her compatriots Femke Kok and Suzanne Schulting. The best German was Marlen Ehseluns in 14th place, Lea Sophie Scholz (both Berlin) was disqualified over 500 meters on the second day of the competition.
