ÖSV stars fail early, Italy fetches gold

The first competition immediately brought the first surprise: Italy secured gold in the team competition in front of Switzerland and Sweden. Austria’s AlpinskiTeam has failed the hoped-for successful debut in the home World Cup in Saalbach-Hinterglemm. The mixed team in the line-up Julia Scheib, Stephanie Brunner, Stefan Brennsteiner and Dominik Raschner lost in the parallel competition in the quarter-finals and became sixth on Tuesday. The duel ended 2-2, but time spoke against the team from the host country. Since silver 2019 in Åre, the ÖSV has been waiting for a team medal at a World Cup. Brennsteiner then prevailed against Fabian Ax Swartz and the mood level on the stands rose significantly briefly – before Brunner then resigned against Sara Hector in the course of the run. Raschner then had to succeed against Kristoffer Jakobsen, but ultimately the time was not enough.

“If someone makes a mistake, it works, but both girls now, that’s too much. They both drove well in training yesterday, unfortunately not today, ”said ÖSV Alpin boss Herbert Mandl. “We knew that you shouldn’t make a mistake, you don’t get that. But that doesn’t weaken people’s potential now, ”Mandl remains confident. “It is difficult to get down here, very technical, it is attractive. The competition is absolutely great and also sportily high -class because it is difficult. ”A medal was possible, but was not planned. After the prominent predecessors Anita Wachter and Kristian Ghedina, both of whom had won medals in 1991 Eleven World Cup competitions with the round of 16, for which Austria and Switzerland had a fire.
