The president of the Basketball Association of Serbia, Predrag Danilović, said through tears that this association would not be what it is today, if it were not for the legendary coach.
“Also, the history of Serbian, Yugoslav and European basketball is inconceivable without his name. Today, many of us are reaping the fruits of his half.century of work in basketball. He once emphasized that basketball is not a part of his life, but his whole life,” Danilovic said at the commemoration.
Partizan coach Zeljko Obradovic pointed out that his legacy is huge, as well as that he raised and educated a large number of players.
“The man who was everything to me is gone. Coach, teacher, mentor, godfather, friend. And not just me,” he added.
The president of the Radnički Sports Association from Belgrade, Sasa Jovičević, assessed that Ivković made the people he cooperated with “safer and more confident”, and that they believed in him more and more in themselves and the goal that was set.
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said that he was proud that Serbia had and will have such a man.
“He will never leave Serbia, nor will anyone in Serbia forget him,” he said.
Former basketball players and coaches Dragan Kićanović, Dimitris Itudis, Svetislav Pešić, Dejan Bodiroga, Vlade Djurović, Dejan Tomašević, Novica Veličković and others attended the commemoration of the celebrated coach.
The funeral of Dušan Ivković will be held on Tuesday at 12:00, at the New Cemetery in Belgrade.
