The footballer Nico Hidalgo, former player of Real Racing, Cádiz and Granada, has died this Saturday at 32 after not being able to overcome a lung cancer that was diagnosed in 2021 and which resulted in bone metastases, the Cantabrian club has confirmed.
The Motril was Canterano del Granada CF and debuted with the first team in a Copa del Rey match in 2014, against Córdoba. Signed by Juventus that same year, the Italian club gave it to Granada B and Cádiz, where he militated two seasons and played 35 games in Second.
Between 2018 and 2020, Hidalgo played at the Racing of Santander, playing 73 official matches and achieving the rise to the Spanish football silver category. Finally, he hung his boots in Extremadura UD after being diagnosed with his serious illness.
Racing regretted his death and announced that he will keep a minute of silence in his memory before LaLiga Hypermotion game on Sunday against Elche. “The Cantabrian entity joins the pain of their relatives and close to this irreparable loss, while sending its most sincere condolences,” he said.
The Cádiz, another of his clubs, also joined the signs of regret. “Nico Hidalgo has left us. We will never forget your smile and joy. Your fight is our example. Rest in peace,” he said.
