Successor to Taiwo Awoniyi: 1. FC Union sign Jordan Siebatcheu – Sport

Bundesliga club 1. FC Union Berlin has found a successor for the replaced Taiwo Awoniyi. The Swiss top scorer Jordan Siebatcheu is coming to Köpenick from Young Boys Bern, as Union announced on Thursday. Union did not provide any information about the transfer modalities and contract duration of the 26-year-old US international. Awoniyi had signed a five-year contract with Premier League promoted Nottingham Forest just under a week ago.

Siebatcheu scored 22 goals for Bern last season and was also a goalkeeper at his previous stations. After his family moved from the USA to France, the centre-forward joined Stade Reims at the age of seven, where he made his professional debut in the 2017/2018 season and led the then second division club to promotion with 24 points.

After the climb Siebatcheu moved to Stade Rennes. There the 1.90 meter long attacker was loaned out to Switzerland after 44 games and eight goals, where he attracted attention in the first year with a total of three goals in the Europa League against Bayer Leverkusen.

“Jordan is a striker who will suit us well with his way of playing football and can act in different game systems,” said Union Managing Director Professional Football, Oliver Ruhnert, “we’re looking forward to him, his goal threat and the fact that he decided for Union.” (dpa)
