Zverev in the semi -finals of Munich

Unimpressed by the interjection of a viewer, Alexander Zverev fought himself into the semi-finals of the ATP tournament in Munich. The best German tennis professional rank Tallon Griekspoor from the Netherlands with 6: 7 (6: 8), 7: 6 (7: 3), 6: 4 and thus ended his latest negative series of six tournaments without moving into the preliminary round.

“At the end of the day I am very happy that I won this match,” said Zverev at Sky. “He opened for the match and I have never bought him beforehand. I’m glad I am in the semi -finals.” There he meets Fabian Marozsan from Hungary on Saturday.

After a very weak first round without mummy, ideas and aggressiveness, Zverev showed an increase in performance against Griekspoor and defied an incident in the second sentence: at 5: 5 and the Zverev, a man roared clearly from the grandstand: “You shitty women’s bats!”

Interrogation causes unrest in the ranks

There was briefly unrest in the ranks, Zverev broke off the serve and looked puzzled towards the man. He then left the Center Court. “There is always one or two idiots in the stadium. This is not a problem,” said Zverev after the game about the incident.

The incident was reminiscent of a scene at the award ceremony of the Australian Open when a woman called something from the ranks at the Zverev’s speech. She referred to earlier violence from Zverev’s ex-girlfriends.

Last June, a proceedings before the Tiergarten district court in Berlin against Zverev had been terminated without judgment against a total of 200,000 euros. The decision was preceded by an extrajudicial agreement by the athlete and his ex-girlfriend Brenda Patea as a co-plaintiff. No admission of guilt is associated with the approval of payment of a money requirement. Zverev is still considered innocent.

Mini crisis seemed to continue – then Zverev turns up

It was no longer sporty for the native of Hamburg after the finale of the Australian Open. At six tournaments one after the other in South America, Mexico, the USA and Monte-Carlo, he did not get beyond the quarter-finals. In Munich, the two -time tournament winner wanted to create the comeback and get momentum for the French Open in Paris at the end of May.

After that, it did not look in the first sentence – on the contrary: Zverev played very defensively, made a number of simple mistakes, looked agile and without ideas. Two days before his 28th birthday, he seemed to fail early on a damp -cold Munich Good Friday. Again and again he struggled and looked at his father and trainer at the stands.

Also Shelton and CerĂșndolo in the semi -finals

After the incident with the viewer, the match turned. Zverev took over the initiative in front of a good 6000 spectators and secured the second section in the tiebreak. “To be honest, I was completely mentally out of the match, I didn’t return well, didn’t play well. I had no break chances,” said Zverev about his performance. “The spectators carried me through the match at 5: 4 and the tie break. Then I also won through the spectators in the end.”

In the decisive third set, he took the surcharge to 4: 3 and already had three match balls in 5: 3. The Dutch resigned this, but Zverev then did not let himself be duped in his own service and was able to cheer after 3:13 hours.

In the second semi -finals, the American Ben Shelton and Francisco CerĂșndolo from Argentina, which were set to number two, face each other. Shelton, Australian Open semi-finalist from January, defeated Luciano Darderi from Italy 6: 4, 6: 3. CerĂșndolo, listed at the BMW Open in five position, beat the former top ten player David Goffin from Belgium 6: 2, 6: 4.
