The decision was preceded by negotiations with the organizers and the Chinese Athletics Federation.

Elsewhere in the world, sports are back, or at least returning to everyday life: there are audiences in the stands, and corona restrictions are starting to be just a memory. It is different in China, which continues its strict corona policy, as the race organizers canceled the athletics half-marathon World Cup competition from November.

The competition was scheduled to be held in Yangzhou. The international athletics federation World Athletics ended up canceling the competition due to the pandemic. The decision was preceded by negotiations with the local organizers and the Chinese Athletics Federation.

The half-marathon World Cup will be moved to the World Road Running World Cup in a little over a year. They will be contested in Riga, Latvia, at the turn of September-October 2023.

Yangzhou will host the World Road Running Championships in March 2027.
