Handball Champions League: SC Magdeburg saves tie: 26:26 against Veszprém

SC Magdeburg has developed a decent starting point in the quarter-final first leg of the Champions League. The SCM saved a 26:26 (11:14) against the Hungarian champion KC Veszprém on Wednesday evening in the first leg in its own hall. The best thrower of the Elesbädter was Albin Lagergren with eight goals. The second leg will take place on May 1st in Veszprém.

Magdeburg did not start a good start, gave several litters, then Matthias Musche was seriously injured on the right foot (1: 2/4.). The SCM often got stuck in the cover of the Hungarians, no remedy for the back of the guests. The SCM then found the game into play via Musche replacement and equalized (7: 7/12.). Magdeburg made too many mistakes, so the break with three goals was in the back.

Even after the change of sides, the SCM did not get into the speed game due to the lack of ball wins in the defense. Nevertheless, at least the distance did not grow further (15: 18/41.). When the Hungarians easily subsided after 45 minutes, Magdeburg used this to compensate again (22: 22/51.). In the now hectic final phase, the SCM took the lead for the first time (26: 25/57.) And nine seconds before the end, coach Bennet Wiegert took a break. In the last attack, Felix Claar got a defense arm in the face, but it continued with direct free throw – who landed in the wall.
