Athletic Bilbao striker Inaki Williams announced that he has decided from now on to defend the colors of the Ghana national team, not Spain, hoping to participate in the latter’s ranks in the World Cup in Qatar later this year.
Williams was born in Bilbao, in the Spanish Basque Country, to Ghanaian parents, but was called up to the Spain national team once, in 2016.
“I feel like it’s time to go back to my roots, Africa and Ghana mean a lot to me and my family,” Williams, 28, said on social media. I am on it now, there is a new challenge starting from now on, I will defend the Ghana shirt and do my best for it, I am one of the black stars (Ghana national team title).”
Williams’ decision comes as a huge morale boost for Ghana, who were drawn into a group that includes Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea, in the finals scheduled from November 21 to December 18.
