The champions of the Padel are not bad, but the star of the Rome tournament, the Italy Major Premier Padel scheduled at the Foro Italico until June 15 (yesterday and today qualifications), is Sara Erranithe champion of Rome and Paris of doubles in pairs with Jasmine Paolini will measure themselves with the Padel 48 hours after the conquest of the second Slam title at Roland Garros 2025.
“The desire to win is always there, but I am aware that it will be tough. I am competitive in everything and curious to see the level of the strongest anyway,” he told the Foro Italico, where tomorrow he will debut on the first day of the main draw at the BNL Italy Major Premier Padel. On the debut in the circuit Premier fellErrani will play together with the young woman Giulia Dal Pozzo.
“I already knew her because she lives near my house, clearly we have not done many tests, we will adapt to the situation – she explained – I saw her quiet, I am very happy to play with her. I like it a lot as a person, for me it also plays very well, it is very strong, I am very happy to play with her”.
In the first round they will face the expert Sandra Bellver and the 20 year old MARIA RODRIGUEZ BELOW. In case of success, for the two Romagna challenges from the creepy to the finalists of 2024, Lucia Sainz and Patty Llaguno (“I don’t know them, but I will watch some videos”, he explains). The spirit of Sara Errani, a curious champion and ready to measure himself in new challenges with his gaze straight and open in the future, returns to Rome “mentally prepared”, he says, and with a great desire to take the field. Passing suddenly from tennis to the Padel, however in the magical context of the Foro Italico who just under a month ago saw her triumph at the international BNL of Italy with Jasmine Paolini, does not worry it.
“I am quite accustomed, because when I am also at home in Spain, I do it very often, maybe I train in the morning and in the afternoon I play in Padel,” he explains revealing that it had been playing for a while, “because the commitments have been dense and I never had time, even if I always had the racket on the bag”. The transition from one discipline to another involves an inevitable adaptation need, even for a champion like her.
“As with all tennis players and tennis players, obviously getting used to the wall is the a little more difficult thing than everything else – he says – I would also like to understand a little more where to play and where not to play, I am not yet very experienced, I still don’t see situations very well”. The desire to learn is combined with a desire for competition that time feeds more and more. “I am really happy to be here. I had talked about it with Luigi Carraro (president of the International Padel Federation, editor’s note). The date of Rome was really perfect, because it was after Paris and there were no other commitments. When I learned that they gave me a wild card I was very happy, I said it to anyone who would come here to play. I would certainly like to do a few more tournaments”.
“Then the Padel is however a great training also for tennis,” explains Errani who reiterates that he had no gap intention of abandoning the first love. “Results like those of the last few weeks give me the desire to continue. If I play like this it is difficult to say ‘stop’. Then the singular and double are very different and the years make themselves heard when you play alone,” he said referring to the announcement given to Paris that he will no longer play the singular tournament.
The blue, which in Paris conquered the first Olympic gold in tennis in the history of women of the women’s doubles last year, would also like to see the Padel in the games program. “I hope so a lot, I think it’s a beautiful sport, why not put it? Is growing so much in all countries, I think the direction is the right one,” he concludes.
