National striker Jonathan Burkardt moves from FSV Mainz 05 to Eintracht Frankfurt. This was announced by the two clubs from the Bundesliga. The clubs did not provide any information about the transfer modalities. According to media reports, Eintracht pays around 23 million euros.
As the Frankfurter announced, Burkardt receives a contract with the Champions League participant until 2030. “He has demonstrated his strong skills in the end in Mainz as well as his tactical understanding. He is an absolute team player on and off the square,” said Eintracht sports director Markus Krösche about the offensive player. According to the Bild-Zeitung is intended to receive an annual basic content of 2.5 million euros from his new club.
“Hi, dear Mainz. The moment has come now: my trip to football in Mainz ends here,” said Burkardt, who had tears in his eyes in an emotional farewell video. “I came to Mainz here when I was 14 years old and got the values of the club very early, which also fit my values incredibly well-such as respect, fairness, for example.”
Burkardt was the best German striker in the past Bundesliga season. The attacker scored 18 goals in 29 games and was still in front of Tim Kleindienst by Borussia Mönchengladbach (16 goals). In the national team, Burkardt made his debut under national coach Julian Nagelsmann in October last year.
Despite a contract in Mainz, which was valid until 2027, the transfer to Frankfurt had become more and more apparent in recent weeks. For the 24-year-old, a dream should come true with the change. The native of Darmstadt has played for Mainz since 2014, but is said to have been a fan of harmony as a child.
