French football does not intend to remain silent. Five days after the conviction of sports journalist Christophe Gleizes to seven years in prison in Algeria, several clubs and the French Football Federation decided to express their indignation. As a reminder, the independent 36 -year -old reporter, who had gone to Algeria for several subjects for So Foot, had been tried for “apology for terrorism” and “possession of publications for the purpose of propaganda harming to the national interest”.
In a press release, the FFF wanted “everything to be done so that (Christophe Gleizes) will find freedom as quickly as possible”. “The French Football Federation is very concerned about the situation of Christophe Gleizes, an independent journalist, who exercised his profession by carrying out a report on the JSK, the sports youth of Kabylia, the Tizi-Ouzou football club, and which has just been sentenced to seven years in prison in Algeria”, continues the press release.
The Professional Football League also communicated, specifying to form “the wish that all the necessary steps be taken to allow the rapid release of Christophe Gleizes, in compliance with fundamental rights and the freedom to inform. »»
Paris FC and OGC Nice was not insensitive to this conviction either. The two Ligue 1 clubs notably shared a petition of reporters without borders, inviting their supporters to sign it. “Let us support his family, his relatives, his colleagues and all those who defend freedom of the press,” writes in particular the Ile -de -France club.
