The Ethiopian Gotitom Gebreslase won today the gold medal in the marathon at the World Championships in Eugene.
She won her first medal at a major competition in a time of two hours, 18 minutes and 11 seconds, while silver went to Kenyan athlete Judith Jeptum Korir (2:18.20).
The bronze was won by the competitor from Israel, Lona Salpeter (2:20.18), and the world champion from Doha in 2019, the Kenyan Ruth Chepngetich, withdrew before the halfway point of the race due to intestinal problems.
