Ivan Andrejev from Bulgaria took the third place in the senior race at 3,000 meters, Miloš Malešević from Indjija was the second, and Botolin was the first in the competition of older juniors, who last night actually recorded a double victory in the oldest street races in Europe.
“I am satisfied because it was a good race. There is always a great organization here, as well as the audience. I will come for sure next year as well,” Botolin said.
Saima Murić from Novi Pazar won the 1,500.meter senior junior race, and Dario Bašić Palković from Subotica won the senior junior race. Aleksa Milanović from Ćuprija was third.
One of the more positive aspects of the 76th street races Memorial “Aleksandar Petrović”, as this event is officially called, was the participation of a large number of girls and boys, students of Ćuprija elementary schools, who represent the base for athletics, but also for Ćuprija sports in general.
The President of the Assembly of the Municipality of Ćuprija, Ninoslav Erić, said at the ceremony of awarding medals and cups to the best in the main race that conditions for new champions are being created in Ćuprija.
This sports event was opened by the deputy president of the municipality of Ćuprija, Vladimir Vasiljević, who said that the local self.government would do everything to make Ćuprija again at the top of Serbian and regional athletics.
The president and coach of the Athletic Club Morava from Ćuprija, Dragan Zdravković, said that Ćuprija once again confirmed that it is a city of athletics.
“This is the oldest street race in Europe. This is the first year that passed without Vera Nikolić, unfortunately. But we repaid her in the right way by opening an athletic stadium and an athletic rally named after her,” said Zdravković.
Among the guests were former athletic champions Dane Korica, Marcel Vucetic, Edin Zukorlic, Zora Tomecic, Dejan Pajkic.
