Drunk before an amateur match in England, a club mascot is kicked out of the stadium

The footage from this Saturday went viral and the video is playing in a loop on social networks. Comical or pathetic, it amuses football fans across the planet.

We see the mascot of the amateur club Saint Albans City – which usually plays in the seventh English division – having all the difficulty in the world to move around the edge of the field of Burton Albion, a club in the fourth English division. His team was then preparing to compete in the first round of the FA Cup, the English football cup.

The mascot, aptly named “Sammy the Saint”, dressed in his yellow double-zero jersey, staggers along the advertising panels then falls to the ground while trying to climb over one.

An attitude which, according to the English media which discuss the sequence, would be due to excessive alcohol consumption by the individual hidden under the mascot before the meeting.

“Sammy the Saint” was quickly escorted out of the enclosure by security. Deprived of its emblematic supporter, St Albans City, which would undoubtedly have done well without such publicity, did not achieve the feat and lost 6-0 to Burton Albion.
