Does Athletico still profit from a possible sale of Vitor Roque?

Big time in Palm trees and called up to the Brazilian team, the striker Victor Roque once again aroused interest from foreign clubs. According to businessman André Cury, the former Athletico has already rejected a million-dollar proposal from Saudi Arabia.

“Today we have a flood of calls from Europeans, mainly the Premier League and Italy. They call to ask for prices, conditions, but we are in the middle of the season”, said Cury, in an interview with ge.globo.

“There was already an offer from the Arab world of 35 million euros, which was of no interest, and now an offer of around 50 million (euro) from the Premier League will arrive,” added the businessman, who denied Manchester United’s interest.

After a down period at Barcelona, including a loan to Betis, Vitor Roque was sold in February to Palmeiras for a fixed 25.5 million euros (around R$154 million at the time). It is the most expensive signing in the history of Brazilian football.

Palmeiras bought 80% of the economic rights, while Barcelona kept 20% to profit from a new sale.

Barcelona still owes Athletico millions of dollars for Vitor Roque

Even with good results on the field, Barcelona is experiencing a serious financial crisis and accumulates a debt of 159 million euros (around R$1 billion) in transfers alone. Among the clubs that still have amounts to receive is Athletico.

In 2023, Rubro-Negro sold Vitor Roque to Barcelona, but did not receive the full value of the negotiation. According to the accounts presented at the General Shareholders’ Meeting in October, Barça still needs to pay 17.2 million euros (approximately R$106.9 million).

The center forward played for just one season at the Catalan club – there were 16 matches, two as a starter, and scored two goals. Last year, he was loaned to Real Betis and, in January of this year, he was sold to Palmeiras for 25 million euros (R$154 million).
