Santos generates reaction from Odair and fans after grotesque failure

While the players on the field celebrated with the center forward, goalkeeper Santos received the support of practically everyone on the bench. The moment was highlighted by coach Odair Hellmann, who became emotional when remembering the goalkeeper’s situation at the press conference.

“What I asked for most, with faith and strength, was for us to achieve consistency and pressure in the area, because a draw could make a difference. We had to get the result. I just put one thing in my head: ‘we’re going to make it and I’m going to ask everyone to run towards Santos, hug them and carry them towards the fans'”, he said.

“When the goal was scored, I didn’t have to ask for it. The entire bench ran out to embrace Santos. That’s synergy, group unity. It was a connection of thought, it wasn’t a request from the coach. The fans can be sure that this group has it and that it will go until the last second to seek the classification that is so deserved for this club, for the fans and for us”, added the coach.

Athletico idol, Santos has merit with the fans

In addition to being hugged by his teammates, Santos also had his name shouted by the 1,850 fans who were at Fonte Luminosa, in Araraquara. Even with the error that could complicate Athletico’s situation, the fans also showed their gratitude for the athlete.
