The round of 16 in the Berlin State Football Cup was tough. There was a sensation at the weekend, a big surprise and two favorites who barely made it to the next round.
Let’s start – credit where credit is due – with the sensation. The state league leaders FC Internationale shot the upper division club Berliner AK 4-0 (1-0) out of the competition on their own pitch. This makes Internationale the lowest representative in the class in the quarterfinals.
Another league leader, however, said goodbye quite unexpectedly. SV Tasmania lost 1:2 (1:2) at SD Croatia. Both play in the top league, but Croatia, as second to last, scored 17 points less than Tas.
Delay Sports was very close to the huge coup. The influencer club showed once again that it is not a normal district league team. Against FC Hertha 03, who play four classes higher, the hosts led by Zulu Ernst 1-0 (55th), shortly before Zehlendorf’s Sven Reimann had seen red.
But after Ernst had to leave the field with yellow-red, the regional league team turned the game around and won 3-1. Ernes Smailovic, Jake Wilton and Patrick-Emmanuel Abé scored between the 77th and 85th minutes. “We can be proud! From now on 100% focus on the league,” wrote Delay Sports on Instagram. The team is currently fifth there, three points behind the promotion ranks.
The regional league team BFC Dynamo almost had to concentrate on the league, where the BFC is only in 14th place. Dynamo was behind from the third minute onwards thanks to Peter Köster’s goal at Eintracht Mahlsdorf from the Oberliga. Moritz Polte equalized in the fourth minute of injury time, Brandon Happi Monthe made it 2-1 for the guests in the 120th minute.
The other results: Pfeffersport – VSG Altglienicke 0:8 (0:3), BFC Meteor – BFC Preussen 0:4 (0:1), Sparta Lichtenberg – Tennis Borussia 2:1 (0:1), Blau-Weiß 90 – Füchse Berlin 2:4 (1:1). The quarter-finals are scheduled for 20/21. take place in December.
