For the former coach of 1. FC Cologne and Borussia Dortmund, Peter Stöger, Rapid Vienna is over after just under five months. As the Austrian capital club announced, the 59-year-old was relieved of his duties as head coach.
On Thursday, Rapid suffered a bitter 1:4 defeat at Rakow Tschenstochau in the Conference League. It was the fourth defeat in the fourth appearance, which means that the Green-Whites remain at the bottom of the table in the league phase with 36 teams. After a successful start to the season, there have only been three wins in the last 13 games.
Stöger led Cologne into the European Cup in 2017 after a 25-year absence. At the end of 2017, Stöger and FC separated because the team was in last place in the table with three points after 14 match days. He then moved to Borussia Dortmund and remained undefeated in his first ten Bundesliga games as BVB coach – a first in the club’s history.
