The Serbian national basketball team lost tonight in Ljubljana to the Slovenian national team after overtime with 92:97 (21:17, 21:28, 23:22, 21:19, 6:11), in a friendly match. The best player among Serbia was Nikola Jokić with 26 points, 12 rebounds and six assists, followed best by Vasilije Micić with 17 points, Nikola Kalinic scored 12, while Dejan Davidovac and Dušan Ristic scored nine points each.
Luka Dončić led Slovenia to victory with 34 points, while Klemen Prepelić and Michael Tobi scored 16 each.
In an uncertain match in Stožice, in front of around 12,000 fans, none of the teams had more than a five-point advantage and everything was decided after an additional five minutes, in which the home team managed better.
Serbia entered the last minute of the regular part of the game with a point advantage after Micić’s point. On the other side, Dončić responded from the free throw line, after which Jokić was fouled, but the MVP of the NBA League hit only one free throw, 86:86.
Slovenia, i.e. Dončić started the last attack, but he didn’t use it, so the match went into overtime.
In the additional five minutes, basket after basket was played. Jokić brought Serbia 92:91, misses followed on both sides, and Čančar made a three-pointer 50 seconds before the end to put Slovenia at 94:92. Then Marinković missed twice for three, Murić was fouled, who scored once for 95:92, but Dončić stole the ball and was fouled 6.6 seconds before the end. Prepelič was fouled, scored twice and decided the match in favor of Slovenia.
Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic also attended the match in Stožice.
In the qualifiers for the World Cup, Serbia will welcome Greece on August 25, and three days later they will play on the road against Turkey.
The European Championship will be held from September 1 to 18 in the Czech Republic, Georgia, Germany and Italy. Serbia’s opponents in Group D will be Israel, the Netherlands, Finland, Poland and the Czech Republic.
