Ibon Navarro will not continue at Unicaja

The Spanish coach Ibon Navarro will not continue on the Unicaja bench next season after informing the club of his decision to execute his exit clause and terminate the contract that bound him until next season, as confirmed this Tuesday by the Malaga entity.

Navarro, except in this last 2025-2026 campaign, has experienced a period of joy at the head of the cajista team, which he arrived in February 2022 to fill the position of Greek coach Fotis Katsikaris, and the club trusted him to undertake a new project for the 2022-2023 season.

And after a “profound remodeling of the squad”, the coach from Vitoria filled the Unicaja trophy room with seven titles: two Copa del Rey, two Basketball Champions League, two FIBA ​​Intercontinental Cups and one Endesa Super Cup.

Furthermore, at this stage, the team always qualified for the Copa del Rey and for the ‘Final Four’ of the Champions League, while the Endesa League resisted a little more with three semi-finals in a row and a last campaign where Unicaja was not so consistent and did not enter the ‘playoffs’ by finishing ninth, “a result that should not tarnish anything achieved with Ibon Navarro at the head of our bench,” the club warned.

In total, Ibon Navarro leaves as the coach with the most victories in the history of Unicaja, with 180 games won in 261 matches coached, numbers that also position him as the coach with the best percentage, having won 68.97 percent of the matches.
