After who knows how many years of suffering, Croatian female tennis players finally have a real chance to leave the Euro-African zone of the Billie Jean King Cup. In a month and a half, from November 11 and 12, in the qualifications for the highest ranking, the competition will host Germany and the Croatian Tennis Association decided that it would be in Rijeka’s Zamet Hall.
This will be the first time since 2008 that Croatia plays at home in the Billie Jean King Cup, that is, since it lost to Serbia in 2008 in Zagreb in the match of the then World Group II. There will be room for 2,500 spectators in the Zamet hall for this occasion, and more details about ticket prices, the beginning of their sale and the dates of the matches will be announced by HTS later. Four singles and one doubles match will be played in two days.
Our female tennis players won the opportunity to be placed in the tennis elite in April at the tournament of the First Group in Antalya, and a victory over the Germans would take them to the so-called Qualifier rank, in which they would fight to go to the final tournament in April next year.
– I think this is an opportunity for us as the Davis Cup national team to enter the strongest group. I invite everyone to come and cheer on our girls. We have a good team led by Petra Martić, so we have the quality to go through, with support from the stands – said selector Iva Majoli.
