The Wales football players advanced to the eighth finals of the European Championship tonight. Wales reached the knockout stage despite the 1-0 defeat in Rome by Italy.

Italy, which had previously secured a place in the round of 16, was led by Mateo Pesina in the 39th minute, who, after a cross from a free kick, forwarded the ball into the net.

From the 55th minute, Italy played with a player more, as the Romanian referee Ovidiu Hatzegan showed a direct red card to Ethan Ampadou, for a foul on Federico Bernardeschi.

In the match of the first round of the European Championship between Slovakia and Poland (2: 1), Hatzegan showed a red card to the Polish player Grzegorz Krihoviak.

Switzerland defeated Turkey 3: 1 in Baku, but due to a worse goal difference, they finished the group stage in third place.

The four best third-placed selections will be placed in the knockout phase, so Switzerland will have to wait for the confirmation of participation in the second phase until the end of the group phase, on June 23.

Switzerland scored the first two goals after great shots from the edge of the penalty area. The first scorer in the sixth minute was Haris Seferović, and the second goal was scored by Xherdan Shaqiri twenty minutes later.

Irfan Kaveci scored the only goal for Turkey at this European Championship with a shot from a distance in the 62nd minute, and six minutes later he confirmed the victory of Switzerland to Shaqiri with his second goal, assisted by Stephen Cuber.

Italy won the first place in Group A with a maximum of nine points, Wales is second with four points, Switzerland takes the third place with the same number of points, and Turkey is the last without points.
