The Leipzig players won a place in the sixteenth final of the Europa League tonight, after beating Manchester City 2: 1 at home.
With the victory, Leipzig managed to secure the third place in Group A with seven points won, while City secured the first position with 12 points and the continuation of the competition in the eighth finals of the Champions League.
Leipzig took the lead with a goal by Dominik Soboslaj in the 24th minute. He managed to escape the City defense and avoid the offside trap, and then went around goalkeeper Zack Stephen and shook the net.
The second goal for Leipzig was scored by Andre Silva in the 71st minute, after a good team action and an assist by Emil Forsberg. Only five minutes later, City managed to reduce the advantage of Leipzig, and the scorer was Riyad Mares, after a cross by Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Manchester City played with a player less in the 83rd minute, after Kyle Walker received a direct red card.
In the same group, Paris Saint-Germain beat Club Brugge 4: 1 at home. PSG is second in the group with 11 points and will continue to compete in the knockout phase of the Champions League, while Bruges is last in the group with four points.
PSG took the lead with a goal by Kilian Mpabe in the second minute. After Mendes’ attempt, the goalkeeper Bruges Minjole managed to intervene, but the ball bounced off the leg of Mpabe, who shot the opposite corner of the goal from the first shot.
Only five minutes later, Mpabe doubled the advantage of Paris with his second goal. Di Maria threw the ball into the box where Mpabe met it and shot from the first. The third goal was scored by Lionel Messi in the 38th minute, with a precise shot from the edge of the penalty area.
With his 30th and 31st goals in the Champions League, Killian Mpabe became the youngest football player to reach the number of 30 goals in the competition.
The scorer for Club Brugge was Mats Ric in the 68th minute. Seven minutes later, Messi reaches his second goal of the match, this time with a precise shot from the “white spot”.
The draw of pairs for the knockout phase of the Champions League and Europa League will be held on Monday, December 13.
