Bayern Munich set themselves apart from the competition at the start of the 16th round with the sixth competitive game win in a row. The Champions League round of 16 opponents from Salzburg finished off VfB Stuttgart 5-0 away without ÖFB star Marcel Sabitzer and increased their lead at the top of the table over pursuers Borussia Dortmund to nine points. The Dortmunders are only in action on Wednesday against Greuther Fürth.

Serge Gnabry initiated the away win with goals shortly before (40th) and after the break (53rd) and after a mistake by VfB goalkeeper Florian Müller also ensured the end point (74th). The 26-year-old now has nine league goals. Robert Lewandowski, who scored twice and with 18 goals, further underpinned his position as number one in the league, is even better on the way. A triple pack for the 33-year-old Poland was only prevented by the pole.
