The celebrated basketball coach Zeljko Obradovic has been appointed the head of the professional staff of the Partizan team, the Belgrade club announced today. Obradovic signed a three-year contract with Partizan.
“We are happy and satisfied that Zeljko Obradovic has returned. I think that every word is superfluous and at the same time not strong enough to describe what his return means for Partizan. We will talk about more details at the press conference. We have a big job ahead of us,” said the Partizan president. Ostoja Mijailović, and the club’s website reported.
Obradovic has been without an engagement since 2020, when he left Fenerbahce.
In his coaching career so far, the 61-year-old expert has won nine European championship titles, and won the first title with Partizan in the 1991/92 season.
He started his career as a coach at Partizan from 1991 to 1993, then he led Juventud, Real Madrid, Benetton, and in 1999 he moved to Panathinaikos, which he led until 2012.
Since 2013, he led the Turkish Fenerbahce, with whom he reached his ninth Euroleague title four years later.
Next season, in addition to domestic competitions, Partizan will play in the regional ABA league and the Eurocup.
The official promotion of Obradović will be held on Monday, June 28, when a press conference will be organized.
