The basketball national team of Serbia secured a place in the semifinals of the qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games, as it beat the Philippines with 83:76 (22:16, 23:18, 22:28, 16:14) tonight in Belgrade.

Serbia was led to the second victory at the tournament by Boban Marjanović with 25 points and ten rebounds, and he was best followed by Ognjen Dobrić with 16 points. Milos Teodosic finished the game with 13, and Danilo Andjusic with 12 points.

Kaku Kuame was the most efficient in the defeated team with 17 points, while Jordan Hiddind scored 13 points.

Serbia will play in the semifinals with the defeated team from the duel between Puerto Rico and Italy, which is on the program tomorrow at 4:30 p.m.

Serbia started the match well, so after the triple by Andjušić, they took the lead with 11: 2, after which the Philippines came to just one point behind in the finish of the first section. Igor Kokoškov’s team went to the first break with a six-point advantage, and led by Marjanović in the second quarter, they reached plus 15 (42:27).

The basketball players of Serbia had an 11-point surplus on their account at the big break, and when it seemed that they would calmly bring the match to an end, an uncertain end followed. With a worse defense, Serbia allowed the Philippines to return to the match in the third quarter, and then to take the lead in the last section (73:74).

The match was decided by Marjanović, first with points 36.6 seconds before the end, then with a good defense, and Andjušić put an end to the match with points from the free throw line.

In addition to the weak game of Serbia in the second half, the injury of Stefan Jović in the middle of the last quarter is also worrying.

Nemanja Bjelica and Nikola Kalinic missed this match due to the blows they received in the match against the Dominican Republic, and Vasilije Micic did not enter the game either.

The semifinals are on the program on Saturday, and only the winner of the tournament will get a visa for the Olympic Games.
